“Sing Academy have given our children the opportunity to thrive creatively, and helped unlock the potential of music in our school.”

Great music education should be...

  • ENJOYABLE
  • CHALLENGING
  • ACHIEVABLE

HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

Founded by Josh Cadman, Alice Cadman and Bert Routledge in 2014. We all had the joint vision for a more exciting and rewarding primary school music education. We believe music should be fun and exciting, enabling children to engage with it - finding out why they like music and what it is they like about it.

Born out of our experience of primary school music, both as peripatetic music teachers, parents and governors, we believe children deserve more than what is currently on offer in some primary schools.

OUR BESPOKE LESSONS AND CLUBS

Following the publication of the Department for Education’s ‘2012 National Plan for Music Education’ and the ‘2012 OfSTED Music Best Practice Case Studies’, our schemes of work have been developed to allow for first-class, innovative classroom music teaching, by our highly trained music staff to comply with the new ‘2014 National Curriculum for Music’.

Our Schemes of Work are divided into a programme of varied and balanced course units. Each yearlong curriculum plan is divided into 6 half termly units. Each of our units allow for consistent and progressive learning and development of knowledge, year on year, of the main areas of study; Understanding, Performing and Creating Music. pupils also learn through high-impact units of work, varying from ‘Music From Around The World’ and ‘The Lion King’ units, to ‘Music for Dance’ and ‘Ukulele’.

Each term also can have gap weeks within the units, which allow space for one-off workshops, cross-year collaborative work and for the insertion of special classes to tie in with School Curriculum weeks. Pupils are assessed through termly performances and written work, and during lessons and extra-curricular activities.

Our diverse extra-curricular offering allows a flexible approach to school music. Extra-curricular music can be utilised to provide wider school opportunities to pupils that don’t have access to music in the home, and also create a vibrant musical culture that gifted and talented pupils can thrive and grow in. We can offer groups including assemblies, school choir, staff choir, instrument tuition, school productions/shows and performing arts clubs.

OUR INSPIRATIONAL TEACHERS

All of our highly skilled music teachers, are sourced from some of the country's best music conservatoires and universities. Our teaching staff are given comprehensive training in curriculum delivery, classroom craft, assessment monitoring, behavior management and child protection and are DBS checked.

Sing Academy aim to keep staffing consistent, by ensuring that staffing is long-term and reliable, not changing staff members where at all possible, and assigning classes specific teaching that will remain with them for the duration of the year.

Alongside inducting and training our staff in our own set of polices, we will also give them a full induction into your own school policies and practices, allowing our staff to fully integrate in a consistent manner into the learning experience of the pupils. We also offer our staff CPD routes, both our own in-house programmes but also external qualifications and training courses, allow them not just to teach, but to learn through the experience of teaching.
